About Us

Yoshie Milburn - Chief Executive

Hawai'i will be the fifth chapter of life for Yoshie. Born and raised in Japan, WWII dramatically closed the first chapter. After marrying a Mid-West farm-raised G.I., Yoshie spent her second chapter travelling throughout Europe while raising two children, Ron and Myrna. In the early Sixties, The Army transferred the family to mainland U.S.A. Chapter three entailed a series of moves, including stays in Texas and Maryland, before retirement from the military finally settled the family in the Washington, DC area. The children grew up and divorce catapulted Yoshie into Chapter four. She returned to college 25 years after earning her Pharmacy degree in Japan, to find she had to start over. Undaunted, she forged ahead, rapidly earning her Masters in Microbiology while working full-time in local hospitals, including the prestigious National Institutes of Health. Even after retiring from laboratory work, Yoshie has kept herself busy with pottery, carpentry and gardening. She is looking forward to contributing her talents to the famliy business at The NayStation Lodge. Watch for her exquisite pottery work in lamps, vases and bowls when you come to stay!

John Nay - Logistics, Marketing

Born in Reno, NV and raised in California during the politically turbulant 60's and 70's, at 19, John made a radical change in his life when he left the west coast and headed east in search of a better life and his dream of a family. After a brief stop in Ohio, John arrived in Washington DC, quickly gravitating to the liberal community of Takoma Park, MD. After a whirlwind courtship, John married Myrna, and two years later, Simon was born. Initially, life was a financial struggle, while the young couple put each other through college and raised Simon. Graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Geology, John's employment horizens soared with the creation of his own business, American Environmental Inspections, and then direct and contract positions at the Smithsonian Institution. 9-11 changed the picture for John as it did for so many Americans. The political focus shifted to the Middle East, and with it went funding. Rather than transferring from research science to the more commercial applications of geology, John turned his efforts to making the dream of The NayStation Lodge a reality. Geology is at the cutting edge in the Hawai'ian Islands - what better place could there be for research work!? Ask John for a guided tour of the volcano when you visit us!

Gretchen Strohm - Soux Chef

Born and raised near Pittsburgh PA, Gretchen's early love for the kitchen was nurtured by her family. Her grandmother's wonderful baking and her mother's down-home cooking naturally led to a culinary career choice as she grew up. After graduating with a BA from PA Culinary, she climbed the ladder from Dishwasher, to Soux Chef, to Chef. Professional opportunities lead Gretchen up and down the East Coast from Pittsburgh to Orlando, Fl, and then back again to PA via the ski lodges in Somerset. After meeting Simon, she decided to follow her heart to Baltimore. Temporarily suspending her career to work in the administrative field, she was better able to coordinate her work hours with Simon. Gretchen is eagerly looking forward to her return to professional cooking. Innovative salad dressings, velvety sauces and sinfully rich cheescakes are only a few of the culinary delights that Gretchen will be creating at The NayStation Lodge.
